WHO are they?
“We are No Hot Ashes and we are a band from Stockport which is just on outskirts of The City of Manchester. We have all been writing and gigging together for around 3 years now.”
WHAT is the inspiration behind their new single Cool Cat?
“Cool Cat is an accumulation of political anger that we wanted to put into words. We came up with a funky riff and some chords and it all came together really quickly. We were just trying to put some angry, punky lyrics in front of a funky backdrop.”
“We recorded Cool Cat with our now long-time collaborator and producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, JAWS) and he really influences us. We take the song into the studio and he gives us suggestions and pushes us to play better and improve areas. We also work alongside Engineer/Mixer Joe Murray and in the end out pops in our eyes a banger and something we are really proud of.”
WHERE did they grow up?
“We all grew up in Stockport, Manchester and 3 of us attended the same high school in which we first met and began jamming together. In terms of inspiration, I guess we are all very down to earth people, we are from a very normal, working class area and I guess the inspiration is to get out of that and explore new places, people and music. The music scene is all in Manchester. There are loads of great venues around the city and the Northern Quarter area has gigs on practically every night of the week.”
WHY are they called No Hot Ashes?
“The name came pretty unplanned, we needed a name and saw ours on the side of a wheelie bin, none of us really love it but it has stuck now and people know the name”
WHEN can I see them live?
“2016 has been a busy year for us so far and if anything the next 7 months left are going to be even busier. We have currently been booked onto 8 festival line-ups which is really exciting for us. Especially as some of them are well established Festivals with massive headline bands. You can follow us and keep up to date with all our upcoming gigs through our social media pages”
