WHO are they?
Lost Dawn are Stanley Duke (guitar, vocals), Benjamin Woods (bass) and Joel McConkey (drums). Their Fever mini album is out February 5 on Easy Action Records. Stanley tells us how it all began. “Ben and I started playing a few years ago, figuring out where we wanted to go with our music. We’ve worked on a few projects here and there but Lost Dawn is the one that’s stuck with us. Joel joined us in 2014 and now our style has really set off on a good path. We tend to absorb ideas from all around us, whether we’re inspired by bands or films we’ve seen or experiences etc.”
WHAT is the inspiration behind their songs?
“Sometimes the lyrics are very personal and emotional, sometimes they’re just words that sound great together. It really depends on the inspiration at the time. For instance, Naked Lunch is about growing older and feeling unsure of what I was doing in life, and yet somehow finding positivity in that. The lyrics for Aguila were formed from conversations I’d had with friends and a trip I took to Spain.”
WHERE did they grow up?
“My early years were spent in the Midlands, but I moved to Falmouth (UK) when I was 11. It was great to form ideas down here, you don’t become stained by judgement if you’re just messing with ideas in pubs around here like you might in cities. It’s obviously a beautiful part of the country, but that’s not really a big part of the inspiration for our sound. The music scene here has been great, it’s only a small pocket but it’s very creative and a lot of fun.”
WHY are they called ‘Lost Dawn’?
“I’m not sure, I didn’t come up with it.” Fair enough.
WHEN can I see them live?
“We’ve a big UK tour happening throughout February.”
